Barnsley Hospitals upgrade to Agfa's DX-G digitizers for image processing

31 October 2012

Agfa HealthCare has announced that it has received an order from NHS Supply Chain for four DX-G digitizers for Barnsley Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Yorkshire, UK.

The digitizers support both standard phosphor plates and needle-based detectors, providing state-of-the-art image quality for the next generation in computed radiography (CR) across a broad range of applications.

An Agfa HealthCare customer since 1997, Barnsley Hospitals has recently chosen to extend its contract with local service provider Accenture for the continued provision of Agfa HealthCare’s PACS solution.

The Trust has purchased the DX-G image digitizers for use across all departments for the CR requirements including accident & emergency. With its small, convenient footprint the DX-G digitizer offers state-of-the-art image quality and smoother, more productive workflow enabling the Trust to process images much quicker and potentially reducing patient doses. The additional capacity also enables an increase in capacity for patient treatment meaning that departments are more efficient in the provision of their radiology services.

Procurement through NHS Supply Chain

The equipment was purchased through NHS Supply chain framework, covering the new PACS and radiology information system (RIS) and associated services, which make the procurement much easier with benefits as best pricing and compliance without the need for lengthy, time consuming and potentially expensive tender processes for individual purchases.

Dave Houghton, Radiology Services Manager at Barnsley Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comments: “The Trust has already upgraded to the latest Agfa HealthCare NX software which includes the advanced MUSICA2 image processing. So in conjunction with the new DX-G image digitizers this will save our radiographers time, whilst providing faster better quality images for use across the Trust.”

Grant Witheridge, General Manager of Agfa HealthCare UK, comments: “Barnsley Hospitals NHS Trust has been an Agfa HealthCare customer for over 15 years and we continue to work in partnership to develop their image management and delivery across the Trust. At a time when the NHS is looking to make both efficiency and financial savings it is important that both the NHS and suppliers use such frameworks as the NHS Supply Chain, where appropriate, to procure more effectively.”
