Philips introduces digital radiography system for smaller clinics
12 March 2009
Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has launched the
Essenta DR Compact, a fully digital x-ray system that delivers high
quality on a moderate budget. It can be used for all general radiography
examinations and is aimed at mid-sized hospitals, imaging centres,
private clinics and orthopaedic clinics.
With a fully digital workflow, the Essenta DR Compact facilitates
efficient imaging and processing, potentially saving time in busy
clinics. Designed to be quick and easy to use, the system’s U-arm can be
moved manually, giving customers fast access to clinical positioning
Based on Philips’ extensive experience, it benefits from versatile
geometry and an ergonomic design, which means that even in a small room
a wide range of exams are possible.
The device is the first to incorporate Philips’ new QuantMaster 3543
RG digital detector. In keeping with Philips’ commitment to
sustainability the detector uses lead-free PCBs, has a low power
consumption, uses ‘green’ packaging and is designed to have a reduced
environmental impact at the end of its life. By developing its own
detector technology Philips is also able to have greater control over
the final cost of the overall product, making it more attractive to
potential customers in both developed and emerging markets.
The device is based on Philips’ proven Eleva platform, which is
already in use on the company’s fluoroscopy, high-end digital
radiography, computed radiography and digital mammography systems. The
intuitive interface provides a convenient and efficient workflow for
dedicated patient care. Customers working with Eleva have reported that
the system is easy for new staff to learn, resulting in reduced training
time.
