Global life science businesses seeking UK partners in biotechnology

4 December 2008

UK companies have an opportunity to meet and do business with international players in the life science industry at The Biotechnology Business Exchange (BBE) on Monday 8 December.

The Biotechnology Business Exchange (BBE) is an annual ‘speed dating’ event run by UK Trade and Investment, and marks the start of the International Life Science Forum.

The event, taking place at the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, London is in its fifth year, and is a unique opportunity for UK Biotech businesses to forge links with some of the most innovative and creative international life science firms, academic departments and research centres.

A total of 170 companies attended BBE 2007, where over 300 business meetings took place. More than 50 hand-picked international companies from key overseas markets will be attending the event, including:

  • AgResearch Limited (New Zealand) — a world leading research company in the pastoral agriculture and biotechnology sectors;
  • Azitu Biotech (South Africa) — a commercially operated plant ‘in vitro’ initiation and research laboratory;
  • Sri Biotech Laboratories (India) — producer of crop management products including biofertilisers, biopesticides, herbal based fungicides and insecticides; and
  • Immunicum (Sweden) — developer of vaccines for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of cancer and infectious diseases.

For a full list of international attendees and to sign-up for the event, UK companies should visit www.uklifescience.co.uk/BBE2008/.

In addition to one-to-one meetings, delegates can benefit from round-table sessions addressing issues including opportunities in Industrial Biotechnology, building European and International R&D collaborations and how to break into the Brazilian market.

UK Trade and Investment advisors will also be available for one-to-one sessions advising UK firms on the practicalities of exporting, as well as the business opportunities that exist in the countries represented at the event.
