UK medical technology industry body announces new chief executive

12 September

The Executive of the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) has announced the appointment of Peter Ellingworth as its new Chief Executive. He replaces John Wilkinson, who left to take over as Director General of EUCOMED earlier this year.

ABHI Executive and Committee member, and former ABHI Chairman, Colin Morgan said, “The ABHI Executive has taken a substantial period of time with the appointment of our new Chief Executive as identifying the right person for the position was essential for maintaining the strategic momentum established by John Wilkinson. We are very pleased that someone of the calibre and extensive knowledge of the industry as Peter has taken this critical role and we look forward to working with him to drive forward the strategic agenda of the Association and its member companies”.

Peter Ellingworth said, “I welcome the opportunity to take over a dynamic organisation like the ABHI, with such a knowledgeable and experienced secretariat. The ABHI is already widely recognised as the lead industry association in the sector, and I will focus on maintaining this reputation and continuing its transformation. I look forward to working with the ABHI members and ensuring that their interests and views are represented. I will also continue ABHI’s engagement with Government and healthcare stakeholders.”

Peter recently stood down as Chairman of the ABHI. He has been an active participant in ABHI activities for a number of years, as well as being involved with the SDMA, BHTA, Drug Tariff Forum and chairing the Advamed UK Working Group. Peter was formerly Vice President, UK & Ireland, of ConvaTec. He has over 28 years experience in sales, marketing and general management in the UK & Ireland, and across Europe.

Peter starts his new role on 29 September 2008.
