Sandvik acquires UK medical instrument company Eurocut

Sandvik Materials Technology has acquired UK medical technology
company Eurocut Ltd, manufacturer of medical instruments and implants
for the orthopaedic sector. Its customers comprise leading medical
technology companies that sell directly to hospitals and medical
clinics.
Annual sales amount to about SEK60m and the company has 60 employees.
Operations are based in Sheffield, in the UK. The acquisition
strengthens Sandvik’s position in the rapidly expanding medical
technology segment.
Sandvik Materials Technology is a business area within the Sandvik
Group and a world-leading manufacturer of advanced special alloys and
ceramic resistance materials.
“The acquisition is in line with our long-term ambition to be a
strategic partner within the area and a complete supplier to globally
leading medical technology companies. The addition of Eurocut Ltd.
broadens our product program, expands our capacity and strengthens our
expertise within machining and production of medical instruments and
implants,” said Peter Gossas, President of Sandvik Materials Technology.
In December
2007 Sandvik Materials Technology
took over US company JKB Medical Technologies, a contract manufacturer
of spinal implants and medical instruments manufactured from titanium
alloy and high-alloy stainless materials. It also acquired from
Medtronic Inc. a manufacturing plant in Memphis, Tennessee, specializing
in medical instruments for spinal surgery.
