New radiation monitor from Southern Scientific
17 March 2008
The Inspector EXP+ is a new, low-cost, hand-held radiation detector from
Southern Scientific that has an external probe, LCD digital readout and
provides audible indication of each count detected.
Part
of the Radiation Alert range from SE International, the Inspector EXP+
(see photo on right) offers excellent sensitivity to low levels of
alpha, beta, gamma and x-rays. The detector is a halogen-quenched,
uncompensated GM tube with thin mica window offering an accuracy of ±10%
from 1-1000 µSv/hr with reference to 137Cs.
A four-digit liquid crystal display is updated every three seconds.
At low background levels, the update is the moving average for the past
30-second time period. The timed period for the moving average decreases
as the radiation level increases. Audio indication is via an internally
mounted bleeper that can be switched off for silent operation.
