3mensio receives US clearance for vascular imaging software

29 February 2008

3mensio Medical Imaging BV of the Netherlands has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance to market its 3surgery vascular imaging (VI) software in the US.

This software provides a clinical application for (vascular) surgeons using CTA or MRA studies to determine abnormalities of the vessels within thorax or abdomen, both in 2D and 3D. 3surgery VI provides tools for stent and graft planning of endovascular procedures.

This sort of imaging software has become crucial in surgery for diagnosis and preoperative procedures. New promising techniques like endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) rely completely on an accurate diagnosis and measurements using solely 2D and 3D radiology images. 3surgery vascular imaging software provides these accurate tools for the pre and post operative planning of procedures on any PC.

"This software basically allows me to see a patient in my office, determine if they’re a candidate for stent graph, and size the device and conduct preoperative planning with the patient right beside me. It typically takes less than 15 minutes," says Dr Bart Muhs, Co-Director of the Endovascular Program at Yale University School of Medicine. "This is appreciated by both myself and the patients who are sitting there; they feel like they’re participating in their care".
