Health technology assessment in Europe

Copenhagen, Denmark. The World Health Organization has produced a policy
brief on health technology assessment: Health technology assessment: an
introduction to objectives, role of evidence, and structure in Europe.
This policy brief introduces the concept of health technology assessment,
which examines the short and long-term consequences on health and resource
use of the application of a health technology. It is concerned with the
medical, organizational, economic and societal consequences of implementing
health technologies or interventions within the health system.
It systematically evaluates the effects of a technology on health, on the
availability and distribution of resources and on other aspects of health
system performance such as equity and responsiveness.
